University Foundation appeals to donors for scholarship fund support

The UA Foundation launched a campaign Monday, July 15 to help offset the loss of $15 million in state funding for the Alaska Education Grant, Alaska Performance Scholarship, and the WWAMI Medical Education Loan Program. Donations to support scholarship scholarships may be made online or by texting AKScholarships to 41444.

More than 12,000 Alaska students were promised scholarships by the State of Alaska, but funding for those programs was swept into the budget reserve and may or may not be reinstated through legislative action during this special session. While private fundraising cannot fill the gap of the $15 million lost, scholarship support is always needed to ensure students have access to higher education in Alaska.

Private funds entrusted to the UA Foundation in support of student scholarships, or any other area of support for the university, will be deployed for only that purpose designated by the donor.

The University of Alaska Foundation is a private nonprofit Foundation, established in 1974 to seek, secure and steward philanthropic support to build excellence at the University of Alaska.
