Outside Activities FAQs

All University of Alaska employees, full or part-time, are subject to the Executive Branch Ethics Act (Ethics Act) and its implementing regulations published by the Department of Law. UA Designated Ethics Supervisor Andy Harrington has drafted a set of Outside Activities FAQs which address many common questions that arise when determining whether outside employment is compatible with university service.

If you have or will have employment or an activity outside your university employment exceeding 20 percent of your total professional effort (e.g. 10 hours per week for full-time employees), please review these FAQs to familiarize yourself with how that outside activity may be impacted by the Ethics Act.

Specific ethics questions can be directed to your campus ethics representative and additional information is posted on the university’s ethics website.
